ZTPMAG Album Review: Bobaflex “Eloquent Demons”

by Craig Noce on August 29, 2017

The hard rocking and hard working boy’s of Bobaflex have done it again!! On Friday, Aug., 28th with much fan anticipation Bobaflex’s 8th

studio release “Eloquent Demons” hit the shelves.  Eloquent Demons is the follow up to 2015’s “Anything That Moves“. This is the second album to feature Dave Tipple and Jymmy Tolland and the first album to be released on Thermal Entertainment LLC.

The album opens with an eerie almost post-apocalyptic narration of a world where political parties and global leaders are nothing but puppets having their strings pulled by demons who control their every move and manipulate the masses to their will. Leading into the first track “I Am A Nightmare” with a hard pounding aggressive rhythm that makes you want to crank the volume and put the peddle to the metal! “Long Time Coming” has a more classic Bobaflex feel with their iconic blend of hard rock and heavy metal groove highlighted with a touch of unique southern rock harmony, West Virginia style.

Bobaflex have always touted themselves as a live performance band, and the 4th track “Say What You Will” promises to be the next

fist-pumping rock anthem firing up audiences from coast to coast during the current tour. “Lights Out” takes us back to the sounds of earlier days in the band’s history opening up with a hit of nu-metal vocals mixed with heavy drum track and layers of aggressive guitar. Not quite sure how to properly quantify this next track, “Real Sadness”, opening with an old school 80’s metal guitar riff and harmonic vocals that ultimately runs through some intricate tempo changes leading into an almost soft, grunge-like chorus building back up for a punch in the face finale, see if you can pick out the various influences scattered throughout this one. I can think of more than a few.

“Off With Your Head”, heart-breaking balad or sadistic revenge, we will leave that up to you to decide. The growling vocals and catchy riffs of “Moon And The Shadows” gives us flash backs of “An American Werewolf in London” on steroids, it’s sure to tear you apart.

Next up, the best to date and by far the best cover of Pink Floyd’s “Hey You” ever. Detested by some, loved by many, many more. Vocal harmonies are amazingly spot on and for us, Bobaflex gave this timeless rock classic a gritty metal edge that only Bobaflex could do.

ZTP Magazine has the distinct pleasure of being on site at the Newport Music hall in Columbus, OH on the 28th for the Official Bobaflex CD Release party of “Eloquent Demons” An honor that we don’t take lightly. And as with any Bobaflex performance they brought everything they had because that is what they do best! We’ll put some images in the gallery below and for a small taste of what you may have missed here’s a little clip of Marty McCoy enjoying a little crowd surfing to the beat of “Bury With My Gun On”!!

Special thanks to John Payne of Payne Productions for capturing this video clip for us
