The Family Ruin- Dearly Departed (coming Sept 23rd 2014)

Favorite songs- Bring Out Your Dead, Let it Burn, Wake up and Sonder.

Right off the bat these guys had me with the first track “Bring Out Your Dead.  I love all music especially metal, but recently this genre of metal is what I find myself reaching for most while I’m driving, working the day jobby or working on something related to ZTP.  Johnny  Mennell and Craig Robinson work very well together, though I am not exactly sure which is the screamer and who carries the loftier notes.  I will be interested to see what these guys look like when a video is given to us.

So this has a little bit of everything for the metal head and even those that kinda sit on the fence with something lighter, maybe waiting for the band that will give them the final boot into the mosh pit.  (Everyone loves a moshpit!  Niki Minaj fans are dying for a mosh pit, I just know it)  Must….not…..imagine Niki fans in a mosh pit with my metal “family”  🙂

So yes like I was saying, something for everyone. Bring Out Your Dead has those catchy riffs, crowd chants, nice break downs and pretty much demands that you sing along, till he sings the high notes, then you should probably stop singing along…you know, unless your car windows are up.  They have a lyric video for the eleventh track on the album entitled “Let it Burn”.  While it’s not a bad video,  I hope they are working on a full production video for one of the songs on Dearly Departed soon, as the lyric videos are becoming a bit overdone these days.  So then you find this track and you’re almost confused.  It’s called “Sonder” and I may be my favorite songs on the album.  Totally different from what I thought they would finish with after the way it started, kinda their own (My December-Linkin Park)  I had the same kind of response the first time I heard that.

That was my positive, now for my negative which may not be a negative for some folks.  Anywho, these guys have done a great job gathering up their influences and making it into their own but the vocals are overly familiar.  I can hear the same note curls and bends that I’ve heard from Avenged Sevenfold’s M. Shadows or Bullet’s Matt Tuck.  I still love it, don’t get me wrong.  But they will hopefully keep pushing the boundaries because it’s a very saturated playing field.

For the first time ever in North America, THE FAMILY RUIN will join VOLUMES, SECRETS, and ICE NINE KILLS on CROWN THE EMPIRE’s headlining ‘Welcome To The Resistance Tour.’ Dates kick off August 30. visit www.faccebook.com/thefamilyruin for details
