Shaman’s Harvest is a five-piece band consisting of Nathan “Drake” Hunt on vocals, Josh Hamler on rhythm guitar and bassist Matt Fisher; Derrick Shipp on lead guitar and Adam Zemanek on drums. Together, they have created a unique sound that features a blend of elements of Southern hard rock and post-grunge, with a hard metal edge and a country attitude.
The latest release “Smokin’ Hearts & Broken Guns” marks their debut release for Mascot Records. Originally formed in 1996 by Bassist Matt Fisher, singer Nathan “Drake” Hunt, and guitarist Josh Hamler, the band had released four other studio albums before signing with Mascot Records, which included Last Call for Goose Creek, Synergy, March of the Bastards and Shine in 2009 which featured the band first Billboard Chart hit “Dragonfly”; which also appeared on the soundtrack for the movie “Legendary“. That single sold over 130,000 copies and really helped to thrust the band into the mainstream spot light.
During the recording of “Smokin’ Hearts & Broken Guns” tragedy struck the band when vocalist Nathan Hunt, was diagnosed with a rare form of lymph cancer in the throat. For anyone who has personally or has had someone close to them, has to go through such an experience, you know how devastating it can be. But Hunt somehow managed to persevere not only completing the recording sessions for the album while undergoing treatment, but also fighting the cancer into remission. This certainly was not an easy task, and shows a tremendous amount of strength and determination. At different stages of production the band had obvious concerns that this could very well be the last album, it was the first time they recorded without being concerned about radio play and instead focused on making the best damn album they possibly could. This new album is a solid testimony to just how dedicated and talented this band actually is.
Shaman’s Harvest puts on an amazing high energy live performance. The mix of heavy metal country and elements a soulful blues sound really sets the group apart from anyone else on the scene today. The entire band puts on an astonishing performance, with songs like “Dangerous,” the Micheal Jackson cover “Dirty Diana,” “Hero,” and their smash hit “Dragonfly.” With the grungy guitar riffs and powerful drum beats, together with Hunt’s emotional and powerful vocals, the intensity that this band brings to the stage is simply undeniable. As testament to this is the recent announcement that Shaman’s Harvest has been signed to join “In This Moment” on their “2016 Hell Pop U.S. Tour” along side of the heavy metal super-group “Hellyeah” and the well made up metalcore grunge group Sunflower Dead.
