New METALLICA Song, “Atlas Rise!,” Now Streaming

by Brian Kuhn on November 1, 2016

Just in time to keep the hype train rollin’, Metallica has released their latest song “Atlas, Rise!” from upcoming album Hardwired…To Self-Destruct available for stream on Soundcloud and a “making-of” video over at their Official YouTube Channel and it’s just as fire as the two previously released tracks “Hardwired” and “Moth Into Flame.”

The song reminds me of several early elements of Metallica thrash. The intro is a nod to Dyer’s Eve, main riff is complex for the rhythmically uninitiated (as most Metallica tends to be) mixed with Lars placing fills mid-bar much like was done on Puppets/AJFA, the middle solo section becomes increasingly epic on a “Maiden meets Disposable Heroes” kind of way and the song ends strong. The album is shockingly consistent thus far in what we have heard. That said, Kirk seems to recycle some licks from “Suicide & Redemption” off 2008’s Death Magnetic though as a musician, I can understand that it’s easy to do this if I were to lose years worth of riff recordings and had to quickly come up with new ones.

Either way, so far, this album is 3 for 3 with fire tracks and if for some reason you missed the first two releases “Hardwired” and “Moth Into Flame,” check them out now! Hardwired…To Self-Destruct is slated for release on November 18th.
