Inaugural Horn’s Up Against Cancer Festival to Benefit the F C Foundation

by Craig Noce on September 24, 2015

On Saturday, Sept. 19th 2015, 20 some hard rock, metal and thrash metal bands from around the country embarked on the Diamond Pub Concert Hall in Louisville, KY in support of The Fxck Cancer Foundation‘s mission to fight cancer by raising awareness and to educate about early cancer detection. By now all of us have been impacted in one way or another by this horrible disease either directly or through our close personal relationships.

“When you hear the words, ‘you have cancer, everything around you changes. Even when you’re trying to be optimistic, you know you still have cancer; it’s a dark cloud that looms over every aspect of your life.” — Kristi Stewart, Horns-Up Against Cancer founder.

Cancer doesn’t just destroy bodies; it destroys the lives and strains the relationships, the family, friends and finances of its prey. The mission of Horn’s Up Against Cancer is not just to raise money and awareness but also to help build a community through music. Never again should anyone suffering or affected by cancer have to feel as though they are suffering alone.

ZTPMagazine would like to thank the organizers, the sponsors and the bands for doing everything they did to bring this inaugural event together in support the fight against cancer and look forward to all future events.

First the organizers: Kristi Stewart, Alex Fairfax, Susie Deborah, Tiffany Starr and Angela Waite.

Please go out and show your support for all the sponsors who donated time, items and effort to the cause:

And a special thanks to all the artists and bands involved, without you, these events would not be possible!!!

The F C Cancer Foundation “Fxck Cancer” was started in Huntington Beach, California by Brandon McGuinness after being diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2005. Brandon was an avid surfer, skater, snowboarder, and loved by everyone who knew him. Brandon lost his life to cancer in 2007 at the very young age of 26 years old. He started the F C Cancer Foundation in order to help victims and their families battle this terrible disease.

“My life has changed, but the way they treat me hasn’t. I’m not one for sympathy. I’m still here doing everything I used to. I’m high, on life. Life is too short… You never make it out alive… So I’m going to do my best and live like it’s my last day every day… People ask me how I deal with it so well, “I DON’T KNOW” I say. I just carry on with life and do things that take those thoughts of cancer away. The less I think of it, the less it bothers me… But not saying it doesn’t get to me would be a lie when it does, “IT DOES”. But deep down I know I gotta keep movin’… How would you deal with it??? You will never know hopefully… ” — Brandon McGuinness

One of the primary mission’s of The F C Cancer Foundation is to fight cancer by raising awareness and to educate about early cancer detection, with an ultimate goal of putting an end to late stage cancer diagnosis. But in addition this mission the foundation also runs a program called “Dyin 2 Live (Wish-Granting/Dream)”. This program seeks to enrich the lives of those fighting cancer by offering them an experience that will bring joy, hope, inspiration, and courage to their lives, even if it’s only for one day. That experience can and often does act as a source of inspiration to those needing a brighter day to shine a little light in those otherwise darkest hours. An experience that can potentially have a life-changing impact not only to the patient, but also the family and friends affected by this terrible disease.

Dyin 2 Live Dream referrals can come from the parents or guardians, from members of the medical community, and from the cancer patients themselves. The fulfillment of a dream creates something magical for those fighting this difficult battle and can bring a little encouragement and joy for those that need it the most.

For more information on the F C Cancer Foundation please visit Fxck Cancer. If you are currently fighting cancer or know of someone in the fight who could benefit from a Dyin 2 Live Dream please submit your story and tell us why and how a Dyin 2 Live Dream would help.

Also, anyone interested in being a supporter, volunteer, or donor please contact Dyin 2 Live Dream at mywish@dyin2live.org.

The F C Cancer Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization with its proceeds going towards raising awareness, education of early cancer
detection, and helping victims along with their families deal with this ongoing epidemic through the Dyin 2 Live program. Join us, Together We FIGHT!
