I had barely gotten to Bogart’s on time and they let me and my friend Shelly right in the side door as I had an interview set up with Aaron Nordstom, (lead singer of Gemini Syndrome) for those uninitiated Synners. We waited for just a sec when we heard them call for GS to hit the stage for a sound check, and schedule or not, these kind of things just have to be done. I love a good sound check honestly, you get to be one of only a few people to see the band just jam out. Often with their street clothes and not performing, it’s a nice to see the band without the full act.
They managed to squeeze in two songs which is unheard of, normally it’s not even a full song so awesome on that one. As soon as they were done I headed down to to the green rooms with Aaron for a bit of a chat. He was cool, relaxed and quite the soft spoken guy but there is a fire in that man and it seems you only get to see that when he’s on stage. Enjoy the interview!
As always, Gemini Syndrome took command right out of the gate and owned that stage, and even with Aaron feeling slightly under the weather and having having two new members it was as good or better as every show I’ve seen from them. I love how consistent Gemini Syndrome is, when I go see them play, I know I will always be blown away. The crowd at Bogart’s did however go especially wild when we got to hear their new tune Eternity, and I think it was a little more than obvious that we’re ready for a second helping of Gemini Syndrome tracks.
I was invited to work with Gemini Syndrome but that didn’t mean I couldn’t catch a few snaps of the other great bands! First up will obviously be Avatar, since Gemini Syndrome was direct support for them. They put on a hell of a show, honestly it kind of caught me off guard, they put on a great show last year at Louder than Life and it still wasn’t HALF as good as this show was!
Kicking the night off was In Days Forgotten, and from what one band member told me they only knew about the show a day or so before they did seem a little nervous on stage. But who could blame them, getting to open for Avatar would get my adrenaline pumping too! They had a two vocalist set up with some killer guitar riffage behind them. I hope to see them do some traveling soon, and maybe get up to Columbus!
And right smack dab in the middle we have First Decree, a straight up no chaser rock/metal band out of Cheyenne, WY and are on tour with Gemini Syndrome and Avatar. If you haven’t heard of these guys yet, you bet your ass you will soon. Though they look young, they have a tight act, and are even tighter musically. Sounds to me like they are no tour noobs! I’ll be looking forward to seeing them again as well!
