In case you have yet to watch the accompanying video or listen to the single itself, Nightwish have released the first single off of their newest album, Endless Forms Most Beautiful, due to drop March 31st stateside. “‘Élan” is a soft and vibrant melody carried effortlessly by new vocalist Floor Jansen, and it is also the first to prominently feature newest member Troy Donockley on pipes, bells, and whistles.
Anyone who has followed Nightwish for the last few album releases knows they have always favored a decidedly underwhelming single release before the album drops, and “Élan” is no exception to this practice (think back to “Storytime”, “Eva”, and “Nemo”). Tuomas has never removed himself from the metal genre, but rather he has continued to evolve himself and the sound of Nightwish to exceed the limitation of the singular metal genre label. With the incredible versatility of a vocal talent like Floor at the helm, I cannot wait to hear what the master composer and poet has to share with the world with the latest album. How will they top the experience of Imaginareum? Ohioans can find out April 17th at the Agora Theater in Cleveland! \m/
