Bush closed out 2016 and brought in 2017 at The Paramount in Huntington NY with 20+ years of music.
Yes, as crazy as it seems, Bush turns 25 this year and since their 1994 debut, Sixteen Stone, have sold millions upon millions of albums. Additionally they have had 18 Top 40 hits including six number 1’s that include “The Sound of Winter,” “Machinehead,” “The Chemicals Between us,” “Comedown,” “Swallowed” and “Glycerine.” Fans were treated to all six of these hits plus over a dozen more during the 90+ minute New Years Eve set.
The night started with a short, high energy set by The Kickback and although they were well received the crowd was anxious for Gavin Rossdale and Bush to close out their year. A large screen behind the drums with nothing but a large Bush logo appeared and within moments the lights dimmed as Chris Traynor, Corey Britz, Robin Goodridge and Gavin took the stage.
From the moment they hit the stage Rossdale’s voice was on. Not only did he sound as good as he ever has but, as usual, he commanded the stage, sung intensely and interacted with fans. Traynor’s guitar sounded crisp and he and Rossdale spent a good amount of time trading guitar licks through the show. A few songs in Rossdale thanked everyone for coming and about an hour in he stopped the show for a midnight break. Although Bush doesn’t seem like much of a party band they brought a bunch of lucky fans, crew and friends up to the stage for the New Year’s Eve countdown and to join them for a shot; of what I do not know.
With 2016 gone the show kicked right back into high gear mixing older hits with more recent tracks as well as a couple of covers. Personally I thought both their cover of The Beatles “Come Together” as well as R.E.Ms “The One I Love” were highlights of the show.
Overall Bush’s third visit to The Paramount was a great show with a great set which you can view below. However, if you missed them this time around there’s no need to worry. With them already scheduled to play three great festivals in May:
You can see Bush with everyone from Metallica to Godsmack, Soundgarden and Kid Rock. We’ll be there so, follow those links, get your tickets now and, if you see someone in a ZTP shirt say hello. Meanwhile have a happy, healthy, safe and, of course, rocking 2017.
